Japanese Artist
Aso Masaya is an illustrator from Japan who began teaching himself illustration in 1998 and started taking on creative projects in 1999. After a car accident in 2007 forced him to pause his activities, he resumed creating in 2011. Since 2016, he has developed a unique digital illustration style using "smartphone finger drawing.”
His artistic style revolves around distinctive “キモ力ワイイ (Kimo-Kawaii)" characters - oddly cute figures that blend a hand-drawn feel with digital colors. This style conveys a humorous, quirky, yet captivating visual language. With minimalist yet highly expressive character designs and bold yet soft color palettes, Aso's works reflect his observations and imaginings about humanity, life, and inner emotions
Aso's creations are not just about visual artistry but also offer a way of experiencing the world. He excels at placing eccentric yet endearing characters into seemingly ordinary settings, evoking both resonance and a knowing smile from viewers. His work blends elements of "cuteness," "instability," and "humor," compelling viewers to pause and appreciate the details.
